In Healing, Less is More

Updated: Dec 18, 2025

On my own healing journey, I have been down all kinds of avenues for treatment - key word – TREATMENT.  Modern medicine has long “treated” dis-ease or illness with a “pill for an ill approach.” Starting from day one, when baby gets a fever, we are taught to give him/her Tylenol or Advil, disregarding that the fever is the body’s wisdom in fighting off the infection and overtime, this wisdom and knowing builds and gets stronger. While we do want to do every thing we can to ease our child’s pain and discomfort, there are also risks associated with taking medication and what it can do to liver vitality and body metabolism.

When a baby is born, we are told to supplement Vitamin D drops with breast feeding. Did you know that mother’s milk does not contain Vitamin D?  - AND for good reason!  Yet, mother’s milk is full of nourishing Vitamin A/retinol which is a cofactor in metabolizing “Vitamin D” in the body. The greatest misunderstanding is that Vitamin D is a vitamin and not understood that it is an actual hormone that cannot be activated or metabolized without animal fat (cholesterol)/Vitamin A – Mother’s Milk. By about 18 months, mom runs out of Vitamin A stores and even sooner if she is under stress or undernourished. But how timely nature is to give us such nourishment from breast milk alone. No "Vitamin D" required.

Over time, certain remedies, supplements and medication dysregulate our bodies even more and the confusion sets in. So, we try to “treat” with more “well-meaning” supplements, herbs or medication until we are in the whirlwind of the healing tornado, so confused and desperate about what to do next. I am not here to preach and rule all medications, supplements or other remedies out. I have also received temporary relief from these things and I am grateful, especially when my own babies/children received relief.

What I hope to illustrate is this: not everything needs a treatment. It needs understanding, attention, it requires acknowledgement and more than anything a trust in our bodies wisdom to recalibrate itself. AND BREATHE. The permission to just stop can be healing in itself.

Since day one we have been bombarded with this "pill for an ill" mindset. So, it is understandable, as we travel through this lifetime, we are often misguided as to what requires treatment with a pill. Even in well-meaning paths of natural medicine, the “pill for an ill” mentality is strongly at play causing more harm and further imbalance than good. The supplement industry has exploded over the past couple of decades and many people are blindly taking supplements based on poor testing and research.

Working with numerous clients, the greatest assault on the body is not what many would expect, like poor nutrition, but actual over-supplementation and medication use. The “pill for an ill” mentality is strong at work even in our well-meaning, natural medicine community and sometimes, even more so – SCARY!  The body has a beautiful way of giving us messages and coming to a place of homeostasis. When we can approach our health with a gentle approach rather than a Band-Aid approach, true healing can begin.  We can reconnect with our bodies wisdom that actually lives within the soul.
